Matthew Perry, beloved for his role as Chandler Bing on Friends, died on October 28, 2023, at age 54. He was found face down in a jacuzzi at his Los Angeles home. The official cause of death was the acute effects of ketamine, with contributing factors including drowning, coronary artery disease, and buprenorphine, a drug used to treat opioid addiction.
⚖️ Criminal Investigation & Charges
Five individuals have been charged in connection with Perry’s death:
Kenneth Iwamasa: Perry’s longtime assistant, who injected him with ketamine multiple times on the day he died

Dr. Salvador Plasencia: Supplied ketamine and lozenges; pleaded guilty to drug distribution
Dr. Mark Chavez: Provided ketamine via fraudulent prescriptions
Erik Fleming: Distributed 50 vials of ketamine to Iwamasa, including the fatal batch
Jasveen Sangha: Alleged “Ketamine Queen” of North Hollywood, accused of running a drug-selling operation
Three of the five have pleaded guilty. Perry’s death has sparked calls for tighter regulation of at-home ketamine therapy, a growing but controversial treatment for depression and anxiety.
