BJJ legend Marcus Buchecha believes ‘pressure’ is on opponent ahead of debut at UFC Abu Dhabi

Buchecha’s Octagon Debut: Calm in the Chaos Kubondo, this one’s layered in legacy and mental chess. Marcus Buchecha Almeida—13-time IBJJF world champ and ADCC double gold holder—is stepping into the UFC octagon at Abu Dhabi with a surprising mindset: he’s not the one feeling the heat.

🎙️ Buchecha Says:

“If we were to fight in the gi, then I would feel the pressure. But in MMA? I’m still new, still hungry, and I’m coming in as the underdog.”

Despite his storied BJJ career, Buchecha sees Martin Buday—the UFC veteran with 17 undefeated submission defenses—as the one carrying expectations. Buday’s experience sets the stage, but Buchecha’s raw jiu-jitsu dominance and first-round finishes (5-1 MMA record) offer the wild card energy.

🧠 Strategy Over Hype

Training with beasts like Junior dos Santos and Renan Ferreira at American Top Team, Buchecha’s approach is all about adaptability:

  • “Black belt or not, I’ll always believe in my jiu-jitsu.”

  • Focused on ground game, but ready for stand-up scraps too.

📆 What’s Next?

He’s eyeing a future appearance at UFC Rio in October—but first, UFC Abu Dhabi on July 26 gets the full spotlight.
