El Salvador's President Nayib Bukele has introduced an innovative initiative called the "Zero Leisure Plan."

 Here are the key points:

1. Purpose:

   - The plan requires all prisoners in El Salvador to work for their food while serving their sentences.

   - In addition to providing sustenance, this program aims to rehabilitate inmates by equipping them with valuable skills.

2. How It Works:

   - Approximately 2,000 prisoners who are in the phase of trust participate in the Zero Leisure Plan.

   - These inmates engage in various activities daily, such as growing crops, raising animals, or working in bakeries.

   - By actively contributing to their own upkeep, they learn practical skills that can benefit them upon release.

3. Benefits:

   - Financial Savings: The state no longer bears the cost of maintaining prisoners, as they support themselves through their work.

   - Rehabilitation: In theory, engaging in productive activities helps rehabilitate inmates and prepares them for reintegration into society.

President Bukele's approach demonstrates a commitment to both accountability and rehabilitation. It's refreshing to see leaders prioritize innovative solutions like this! 👏🏻🇸🇻
